Weeds do not wait, and neither should weed management decisions. The Kansas State University Agricultural Research Center in Hays will host its Weed Management Spring Field Day on Thursday, June 18, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m. CT at 1232 240th Ave., Hays, KS 67601.

The field day will bring together K-State researchers, industry representatives, and western Kansas producers to explore practical weed management strategies for pasture, rangeland, and row crop systems. As producers face increasing herbicide resistance concerns, tighter margins, and growing interest in precision technologies, the event will highlight practical tools and research relevant to weed management decisions in western Kansas production systems.

Topics will include:

  • AI and weed recognition for targeted herbicide applications
  • Drone technology for weed management
  • See & Spray™ technology
  • Autonomous robots for weed control
  • Weed management in pastures and rangelands
  • Occasional tillage for weed management
  • Herbicide programs for weed control in fallow, sorghum, and corn

Presentations will be led by K-State College of Agriculture researchers and extension specialists, including Jeremie Kouame, weed scientist; Sarah Ganske, weed scientist; Patrick Geier, weed scientist; Keith Harmoney, range scientist; and Augustine Obour, soil scientist. Industry representatives will also share emerging tools and technologies shaping weed management.

Local producer Adam Brull will provide a producer perspective on adopting and evaluating weed management strategies and technologies under real-world conditions.

Lunch will be provided following the program. The event is free to attend. Walk-ins are welcome, though advance registration is encouraged to help organizers plan meals and materials. RSVP is appreciated but not required.
